A crusading crime reporter (Stuart Erwin) is approached by the daughter (Madge Evans) of a shop owner (J. Farrell McDonald) to investigate the mobsters who have threatened her father. With the help of a suave society lawyer (Franchot Tone) who injects some delightful and unexpected romance into the story, they work together to fearlessly engage the mobsters and outmaneuver their attempts to escape the law.
